In 2008 I got a job in Lincoln, Nebraska and we moved our family
there from Knoxville, Tennessee. In true pioneer style I drove
out there as the vanguard to prepare for the family to follow. I
camped and started my new job while looking for a house to house
us. But on the way there, somewhere in Illinois I discovered a
cad on the radio talking about Back to the Future. His name was
Glenn Beck and he spoke to me.
I then watched him appear on CNN, switch to Fox News, and then
leave television to do his own thing. A
recent Rolling Stone article
well chronicles his life. He has an incredible ability to connect.
When I listen to him I feel like he's talking to me. I don't
always agree either, which is what I like in a conversation.
Sometimes Glenn is batshit crazy and in those moments I understand
better my own batshit crazy moments and how the rest of the world
sees them.
I've tried to avoid the political on social media for the past
week or so, but it's pervasive. Half of my family is voting for
Trump, because Republican. Team spirit, I guess, trumps logic?
Sadder though is the sexist part of my family voting #Imwithher.
Wife, daughters, cousins, fools.
Glenn Beck supported Ted Cruz, who is a narcissistic culture warrior
believing only that if he stamps down on other peoples' freedom
to choose their lifestyles society can be redeemed. But Ted Cruz
endorsed Trump. Beck, on the other hand, cannot do the self
serving thing that would placate his audience and support Trump.
He does hit pieces on Hillary Clinton, but it's not the same. And
Beck has given voice, that is, air time to the Johnson/Weld
campaign of the big "L" libertarians. I voted for Johnson in 2012...
Evan McMullin is a mormon (or is that moron?) just like Glenn
Beck. And he might win Utah. Beck is not part of the cabal
foisting this former CIA operative on America though. He stands
apart despite the commonality of faith. Classic Glenn, and why
I'll continue letting him speak to me.
