Games

Last night we all watched the Germany vs. Norway soccer game, and spoke a mixture of Deutsch, norsk and English. It was pretty fun since we've been rooting for Deutschland since the '02 World Cup. Maxwell felt a little torn at first to root against Norge, but once the game got under way and he saw how one sided the scoring would be those trepidations dropped away. It ended up being a 6-0 rout.

A world away in Atlanta, but also at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, two of my alma maters took on eachother in their first football contest since 1987. I've never had to decide which to root for before, but I think I probably would have gone with GA Tech for reasons of precedence. I don't know. The game didn't start until 2AM local time, and I opted for bed instead. I've been stressing about bureaucracy, probably more than I should, lately. When I checked the score this morning, I saw that sleep had been a good idea because the game had gone into double overtime and been decided by a missed extra point.

Now I'm laying in bed listening to the rain and Cara sleeping next to me. I typed this up on my phone. The five and a half minutes of daylight we lose every day here has become quite perceptible as we race toward the equinox, when all the world has day and night in equal parts. In Nebraska we were losing daylight less than half as fast (like 15 minutes per week) and I noticed. It's probably a source of stress as well. My cousin Kristen who lives in Alaska is just a little further north, so she's losing about 10 seconds more per day than I am.
