At Dynata we're trying to work across teams via innersourcing, which is like opensource but constrained within a specific organization. To that end I've had my team jump in and build API clients for other Dynata products that we use. We've actually been able to opensource a couple of these and we've gotten one to 1.0 feature completeness, and gained other internal users. Other teams have had similar limited success. To take it to the next level this week I read Andy Oram's Getting Started with InnerSource which had the case study of PayPal's experience of moving to Inner Source and then Open Source development (for some of their tools). It was short, but useful to gain some anecdotes to have in my pocket when I encounter resistance.
