Drinking Hot Tapwater

I lost a bet this week because I really thought that it was a totally normal thing to use hot water for cooking and drinking and such. And that by taking a poll I would prove this easily. Boy, was I wrong! Upon further research this appears to be something I somehow totally missed. Here is a nice resource of information on it. The CDC, EPA, etc. all seem to agree that the hot water in pipes is more likely to have disolved nasty chemicals, especially metals, from pipes. This really seemed unrealistic to me considering the short amount of time hot water spends in the pipes between the heater and the faucet. Nevertheless there is apparently solid evidence that this is the case.
