We finished up our three day whirlwind weekend by taking a trip down to Lawrenceburg, TN to visit David Crockett State Park, the
one-time site of his mill business on Shoal Creek. I read Crockett's autobiography 7 years ago after picking it up on a
trip to the Alamo.
We were living in California at the time, and my excitement about the guy had been replaced by something else by the time we were
back in Tennessee again. Dreams of building TheWineRater.com I believe...
The Huses came along with us, the nominal purpose of our trip being to find a location to do a little bouldering. The park
description advertised "limestone bluffs" along the trails, so I figured we'd find something without too much trouble. Cara and
Kanutte couldn't come up with a better plan sitting poolside last night while we grilled out, so this is what we did. In the
end I carried a crashpad while we circumnavigated the park, hiking, swimming and playing on the playground but finding no good
place to go bouldering. But at least I got to tell them all about Crockett, Jackson, the Trail of Tears and the Amish. Yes,
Lawrenceburg is also horse and buggy country.
