Holidays

These weeks of holidays are very short.

My parents were up here for Christmas. We took them out to live music at Puckett's Boathouse. Ray and my mother had heart to hearts about their respective difficulties. My parents have two dogs: Maggie & Lucy. Lucy was a puppy when Cara was pregnant with Maxwell, so she's rather old. Christmas Eve Lucy started feeling bad, puking and such. After the present opening my mother took her to the emergency vet. Her liver enzymes were off by several orders of magnitude and it looked like this might be the end. After getting rehydrated and some meds Lucy pulled through and was back home Friday. My mom was glad this didn't turn out to be "the Christmas Lucy died".

These weeks of holidays are very short.

Later this week, New Years Day actually, Cara and I are running a race together. Well, I'm running the 10K and she's running the 5K. I've put on about 20 pounds this month, so it's a much needed start to 2015. It really is amazing how fast I can bulk up. It'd really come in handy that long starving winter that will never come. The Deutsch cognate for starve is sterben, which simply means die. Scary that that particular mode of death was so common as to become synonomous with death.

These weeks of holidays are very short.
