My Brittan

Change, Isaac Newton once said, is the only constant in the universe. He was an alchemist searching for the Philosopher's Stone. Instead he found Calculus and Celestial Mechanics. Tonight I found myself helping Brittan with her Linear Algebra proofs. I don't get to do much math these days so it was a welcome activity. She aspires to be a geologist. An exogeologist. Her particular interest is in the red planet, Mars. You can always make her smile with a My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas. Because she's still a little sad about Pluto loosing it's planet status. When I was at Stanford she went to a lecture by the guy who was responsible; probably a life-changing event for her.

Today my Brittan is finally taking her first college Geology class. She's trapsed around country with her family on our oft-geologically themed roadtrips fueled by the Roadside Geology series. She's spent a few weeks in San Antonio studying the geology of Texas. She's spent a summer imaging thin sections of igneous rock from Arizona. Tonight I asked her if her geology class was everything she hoped it would be. She answered, "It is. And more." Nothing makes me happier than seeing her successfully pursuing her dreams.
