Last night Cara flew out to California. San Diego. To be with my sister on her journey across the country. So she won't
be lonely. A road trip with her best friend, she called called it. My sister was married to Amir 10 years. 10 years
until he, as so many military men do, decided to find something new. It's not too surprising considering how many
times his father has been married, but it's still disappointing.
Jaime and her daughter Lexi are going to live with my
parents in Hilton Head. She followed him around as the dutiful military wife, never getting a degree or career of
her own. She perfected her role as wife and mother through move after move and deployment after deployment. Now she is
only a mother.
I sent Cara out there to bring her bubbling zest for life to my sister. They have a bond that dates back to childhood.
When Cara and I were dating in high school they got very close. I remember Cara coming over unexpectedly - well,
unexpectedly to me - to dye Jaime's hair and do other girly things.
It was a lonely run this morning to finish up my 15 miles for the week, but my sister will not be lonely for her drive
across the country.
