Email Lists

If you're anything like most people, you're subscribed to a number of email lists that you find to have varying degrees of utility. I tend to subscribe to just about everything I come across that appears mildly interesting and then unsubscribe to most of it when it clogs my inbox. Nevertheless, I thought it might be useful to present a list of the current survivors. So in no particular order:

The Runner's Trip - I love running and this ultra runner (Sarah Smith) captures how I feel about it in tales of her adventures. I want to run those mountains too!

O'Reilly Design Newsletter - One of many O'Reilly Newsletters I'm subscribed to, this one focusing on design in the programming world. Mostly web design.

O'Reilly Artificial Intelligence Newsletter - This newsletter is interesting, and I often use it for content for tweets by Data Monetization Solutions.

Pony Foo - information on new developments in JavaScript, primarily by Nicolás Bevacqua

API Developer Weekly - This is a great news agglutinator of all things API run by James Higginbotham & Keith Casey.

Javascript Weekly - An agglutinator of all things JavaScript for the past week. Usually more content than I can process - well, more than I have time to process in a given week.

Compelling Science Fiction - This is a newer addition to my email. I haven't decided if I'm keeping it yet.

O'Reilly Programming Newsletter - more O'Reilly content relating to programmming

O'Reilly Data Newsletter - The often has some interesting content on data manipulation and presentation, and I this one also provides fodder for tweets by Data Monetization Solutions.

James Clear - Not too frequent articles on self-hacking, er, psychology.

O'Reilly FinTech Newsletter - Interested in Bitcoin? Me, too.

Nordic APIs Digest - Consisting basically of blurgs of blogs on different topics around the API ecosystem with links to longer form blogs.

Feld Thoughts - Entreprenuer Brad Feld opens up about the industry and whatever else is on his mind. Extremely variable quality, but he's a person worth following because sometimes he'll take you to places you weren't expecting.

Paul Jarvis - Freelancing advice from one who lives it. Also rats.

Wait But Why - Long form posts usually on popular science topics, but he has waded into the mire of politics lately.

Patrick McKenzie - Entreprenuership + Hacking + Finance

Friends of Warner Parks - Local park here in Nashville with events where I have done volunteer work.

Georgia Tech Alumni Association

The CFP Report - Cal Evans agglutinar of CFPs for developer conferences. Very useful if you're looking to speak at conferences.

Meetup - I am a member of like 30 meetups so I get several notifications of events every day from which I cherry pick the ones that look like they're going to be the most useful. Sometimes I waste my time, but it keeps me connected to meatspace. If I go that is. I probably skip more events that I put on my calendar than I attend.

ACLU - The American Civil Liberties Union is a great organization that uses the legal system to protect American citizens' rights as delineated in the Bill of Rights. This keeps me updated on what they're doing and frequently provides opportunities to reach out to my congressional representatives regarding specific legislation. Caveat: they are pro baby killing, i.e. do not include the unborn among Americans whose rights they are interested in protecting.

Pardon Snowden - Hopefully a short term campaign to see an American hero recognized and protected from the government of his homeland so he can return to living here. My fear is that I'm going to be getting these emails for many, many years unfortunately.

FEE - The Foundation for Economic Education has a weekly round up of their most interesting articles.

Liberland - An interesting project I've been following to carve a libertarian microstate out of disputed territory along the Danube in Eastern Europe.

Dataconomy - More fodder for tweets by Data Monetization Solutions.

Open Sourcing Mental Illlness - Information on the advocacy group for bringing mental illness out into the open in the developer world.

Run and See Georgia Grand Prix Update - Information on upcoming races in Georgia.

Beacon Center of Tennessee - Information on local political issues from a liberty minded advocacy organization based here in Nashville

Rhizome Productions - Information on beer events here in Nashville.

Amanda Palmer - Ramblings and sometimes songs of an artist who I enjoy and has a very clubby aesthetic to her fanbase.

Gates Notes - Bill Gates sometimes blogs.

AlterNet - Keeps me updated on the state of the US governments neverending War on Drugs and the horrible effects that has on people. They also more generally approach issues from the left of the political spectrum.

First Round Review - Articles on business. Generally good ones and not to many.

YMCA of Middle Tennessee - events, sports & such

Cato Institute - Libertarian perspective on politics.

Duke TIP - My kids are brilliant. Duke has a huge program meeting their needs for intellectual stimulation.

UT Alumni Association

Meeple Mountain - Local Nashville organization of board game enthusiasts.

TEDxNashville - Nashville TED talks tend to focus on the health care industry.

Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth - More local activities for my brilliant kids.
