I've been running for a long time. I have a pretty good understanding
of the things that work for me. One of those is nice, thick, moisture
wicking hiking socks. Yes, I understand they look a little ridiculous.
No, I don't really care about it when I'm running. But there's that
little voice in my head that says, "you'd look cooler with real
running socks". You know, the Swiftwick kind that only comes up to
your ankles. Cara thinks they look a lotter cooler, too, and has tried
to convert me to them more than once.
So this morning I ran in a pair of Swiftwicks that I got as a
freebie at a race earlier this year, and, damn, my calves looked
cool. It was a short 4 mile run, but about a half mile or so was
through tall, dewy grass. When I got home I had big old blister on one
of the toes on my left foot. A blister! I ran the Seattle Marathon
last month in my favorite Costco socks and my feet had barely any
blisters. Clearly, I should stick with the socks that work.
