North Sea Swim

This morning Maxwell, Zara and I headed out to the Nordnes Sjøbad to enjoy the relatively warm weather. It was in the 60's yesterday and sunny! Today the temperature was back down to that of the nearby North Sea as misty clouds enveloped Bergen. We got there to discover that they only take Norwegian credit cards or cash (oh no!) but the nice lady at the desk said we could go in anyway because it wasn't our fault for not knowing that. Nordnes Sjøbad is on the end of a peninsula that juts out from the center of Bergen with rocky cliffs above. There's a heated saltwater pool for laps, a baby pool, and platforms and a diving board hanging out over the water.

I headed straight for the diving board, but the kids were a bit timid about jumping into the cold waters of the North Sea. They gingerly made their way down the ladder after I hopped in. Maxwell, who has about 0% body fat, decided it was too cold, but Zara eventually joined me and we swam around to check things out in the swimming area they closed off from ships in the fjord. Then we had some races in the heated pool (Zara often getting out to run along side for the win), while Maxwell hid in the sauna. He's a funny dude.

Eventually Zara's & my 3rd time in the sea we coaxed Maxwell to jump off the diving board by bribing him with lunch out. He was out of the water and back in the sauna lickity split though! Sadly they have a no photograph policy, so I didn't get any pictures. And we did go out to lunch as promised afterward, where Maxwell got some yummy salmon. I still can't get over how that's cheaper than a burger or salad here!
