Amsterdam

I was disappointed seeing the beach and the dunes flanking it as I flew into Amsterdam this morning. I'd really hoped Holland was protected by a big dike holding back the North Sea like I'd always imagined as a child. Then we flew over the land a bit and I realized that there were boats, large container ships, well inland and that the land itself was broken up by a multitude of channels more numerous than the roads. This is my first time in the Netherlands, and despite the American caricature of it there isn't pot in every duty free shop. Schiphol is actually just like any other well run first world airport. Sadly with only a 4 hour layover there wasn't time to venture outside. Maybe next time.

This is also my first KLM experience, and I have to say both the short flight to Amsterdam and the long one after that to Atlanta were spot on. Not that I've really have a bad Trans-Atlantic flight. They're just long!
