The year is 2037 and I've come to visit Brittan for her 40th
birthday. She's been living on Mars for a decade, but it's
still fairly expensive to visit. Mars is one of those places
where you might die on the way and, if you're not careful, you
might die while you're there. I'm looking forward to seeing
her chickens because they're fully flying there. And the eggs
are apparently bigger because gravity is less. We'll see. Her
geologic survey of the planet was instrumental in identifying
the resources that her company now exploits. Water is like
gold there. Her children have only known the Martian life,
but I'm hoping we can steal them for the summer as my own
parents used to when they get a bit older. This will be our
first time meeting them in the flesh! Most of all, I'm proud
Brittan has taken our genes outside of Earth's gravitational
well and increased the survival probability of our species. A
great adventure indeed!

This week Brittan got accepted to grad school and took a big
step closer toward this future reality she's been dreaming
about for years. Well, I infected her with my meme of my dream
of retiring on the moon and she took it to new heights. So
long as Elon Musk is running the planet's space program I'd
say her dreams have a good chance of becoming reality. Her
first acceptance is just the beginning of the journey, of
course. There will likely be others and then she'll have to
decide the best fit between her priorities and theirs.
Congratulations, Brittan! I'm very proud of you.
