Syttende Mai

In 1814 Norway enacted the second oldest constitution in the world after the US and went on to choose a king deftly to gain peace from the Napoleonic Wars. Like the US, they were fighting England at the time. It's amazing how having a foundation myth rooted in diplomacy rather than vistory in war can affect the character of how they celebrate their national hoiday.
