A Poem to My Wife

The journey we have been on together,
Has seen many ups and downs,
We've gone long down the road together,
And feel weary of the companion with which we travel,
                  As couples often do.

                  I love you so much.
My heart swells with pride at everything you've accomplished.
When we were in our twenties,
                  I whispered in your ear,
That I would only be remembered as your husband.

                  A selfish thought, perhaps,
                  That I might be remembered.
When really all I wanted to say,
Was that I saw the infinite potential,
                  Of what you could accomplish.

I find happiness staring into your eyes.
I find meaning in enabling your success.
I find sorrow in your suffering.
I find life in your small kindnesses.

                  History built up hurts and loves;
As we've traveled this journey together.
                  I love you Cara.
                  And I always will.
