I'm typing this on the Autobahn. Earlier I was driving 100 mph
with the other cars but now we're completely stopped. One of
those great traffic jams where people get out of their cars to
try and get a better look at what's happening. I'm driving
from Naumburg where I spent the last night to Wittenberg,
where I'm going to nail something on some church doors. Just
kidding. I don't sleep that well. Suffering from nightmares
is no place to originate a belief systen from.
. . .
So I've seen the door Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to,
and tonight I'm sleeping a few blocks away. I did finally make
it here, lol! Luther excites me as a historical figure because
he championed the idea that men shouldn't blindly trust their
spiritual leaders, but should instead think for themselves.
When taking an unpopular stance I have often drawn inspiration
from his statement when put on trial: "Hier stehe ich. Ich
kann nicht anders." Also, being in more out of the way parts
of Deutschland has forced me to speak Deutsch, and I'm
actually not so bad. I found a karaoke bar for later that
gives you a free Schnapps for every song sung. For dinner I
enjoyed a WittenBurger...
