At the subatomic scale, the laws of physics are the same backward and forward in time. An electron traveling forward through time is the same mathematically as a positron traveling backward through time. The premise of Christopher Nolan's new movie, Tenet, is that humanity has created machines that can "invert" macroscopic objects so that they are traveling in the opposite direction in time; that a bullet or a person or whatever can have their time direction switched and you experience time in the opposite direction. Cool premise for a movie if you can manage to suspend your disbelief of this ridiculous idea. Things fly upward as time moves forward because they were dropped going backward in time. Nolan lets us watch this Gedanken experiment play out with his usual cinematic grandeur.

If you have enjoyed Nolan's other movies, then you will enjoy this one too. He repeatedly satisfies the viewer with foreshadowing that delivers at critical moments as the plot develops. And the idea that the journey backward through time takes as long as the amount of time you want to go back adds an interesting element to the time travel genre that will no doubt be copied in future films. Personally, I also enjoyed the locations for some of the main action scenes taking place in European cities which I have visited in my own recent history. Although the Oslo airport sadly didn't look familiar because it was not actually the Oslo airport. On the other hand, many of the sequences in Tallinn showcase that beautiful city and it was a pleasure to see it on the big screen.

Although a great film to captivate the senses and escape into, I'd stll say it's far from Nolan's best work and I'm not sure I'll see it a second time.
