This week I learned that anumber of African countries have turned over operation of 19 parks to a private organization with a mandate to preserve habitat and wildlife. Considering how precarious the existance of a number of the planets megafauna are, this has the potential to stave off extinction of them for another generation. Considering humans historical role in megafaunal extinction and the strong short term incentive for locals to harvest them, having an international organization policing these parks has the potential to be a real boon for conservation.
