I've been following the work of Øystein Dypedal for a while now, but it was not until reading his book, Tiny Bergen, that I learned his gatekunst minitures were inspired by a London artist, Slinkachu. This month Dypedal has an exhibition in the shop atop the Fløibanen, that is, photgraphs of his work on the streets and some others. His art involves creating little scenes in public places, so it doesn't necessarily lend itself well to monetization. I went up Fløyen to see the exhibition yesterday, and I don't think people really appreciated it. They just stood there in line for a drink or snack and didn't seem interested in the photos. Admittedly, Dypedal's work was shown alongside that of another artist whose paintings were a completely different beast. So I bought and read his book there in the sunshine outside in the crowded café overlooking the city he called most beautiful.
