18 January 2021 Today a new car company came into existence through the merger of Fiat-Chrysler, who you've perhaps heard of, and the French Groupe PSA, which you likely haven't. Interestingly they're placing their new headquarters in Amsterdam, which post-Brexit appears to be emerging the continental rival to London. It's interesting to see more of the old brands combining under a single roof as newcomers like Tesla gain marketshare. Norway recently became the first country in the world to see the sale of new electric cars eclipse that of gas powered ones. Of course, geography allows Norway to generate nearly 100% of its power through hydroelectric means despite being a major oil producing nation. Stellantis has 14 brands: Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram and Vauxhall. The average American no doubt only recognizes a few of these became many are sold exclusively outside of North America. Interestingly until a few years ago Opel was the European mark for GM, but now sits in the same house as Chrysler. Of course, there is also chatter that the Chrysler brand might be retired. ![]() C'est un Peugeot |
