2 February 2021 Kvitmonat completed, I thought I might venture out for a pint after work. As mentioned earlier, Norway closed down all the sales of alcohol in bars last month so I wasn't sure if this was even possible. So when Starbucks closed and they kicked me out I headed over to Apollon, where they sell beer and music. Well, they sell records like it's 1975 or something. I still don't get why the kids like 'em so much, but I guess have something physical is still exciting to some people. So I walked into Apollon and asked,
"Do you sell beer?"
"Yes, we do. But you have to buy potato soup first." "Soup?" "Yes, soup. To sell you alcohol we have to sell you food first. The potato soup is 39 kroner. You don't have to eat it, and you can buy as many beers as you want after that. The government has said you have to buy food first to sell alcohol." "Okay. I was just wondering since I haven't been out in a while." "Well, those are the rules today. I don't know what they'll be tomorrow." On the counter, sure enough, was a hotplate and pot. Apollon has never had food before, and I kind of wonder if they don't have a kitchen how they got the food prep permits so quickly. I didn't ask. The only food they sell is soup that no one actually eats. Well, at least I didn't see any patrons with bowls next to their pints. Today's episode of pandemic theater is like so many we've experienced over the past year. I didn't eat the soup. As I write this I'm out drinking a beer though. |
