Askøy
This afternoon Maxwell and I hopped on the bikes and headed out to the island. He's been performing excellently at work and written some great code so far. We've done lunch and see eachother every day, but haven't really done anything outside of work yet. Naturally I was super excited. And tomorrow I leave for Schweiz, so I won't be seeing him for a couple of weeks. My Deutsch has gotten terrible having not really used it since 2019 when I was translating the React.js documention, but hopefully I'll fall back into it. Einfach, rightig?
We took the boat across the Byfjord to Askøy so I could show him my usual 20 km route. He's training up to do the Bergen-Voss ride, which is roughly 160 km. Today's 30 some odd kilometers was one of the longest he's done so far, but he has plans to do the loop up from Bergen through Åsane and Arna which is roughly 60 km. Assuming he can complete a couple 60 km rides without trouble then he's going to try Bergen-Voss in a few weeks. I'm quite proud to see him hatching such plans and look forward to watching his progress toward his goal. Of course I want to help him achieve it, but in this case the best thing to do is get out of his way. That's a hard reality for a dad who hasn't gotten to do much dadding this past year.
