20 July 2021 - Zürich

I started off this morning with an easy-going 10 km run along the shore of the Zürichsee. Without a race to train for or miles to get in I can just get back to the enjoyment of running. Talking to Chris during the Eiger 51 got me to thinking that I need to do more races like I used to do; having one big race for the year is maybe too much pressure. This morning it was just me and my love for my body expressed through running. Zürich seems like a really family friendly town from the western side of the lake. There were parks with sunbathers. There were groups of toddlers splashing in puddles. There were playgrounds. There were beaches, albiet submerged, with platforms for kids to swim out to. There were docks with boats large and small. There were clubhouses for rowing teams. There were cafés and biergartens. There was even a science summer camp being run out of a medium sized boat docked near a park.

After I got back and showered Maxwell started messaging me and I spent the next hour helping him troubleshoot an issue at work. Then I had a pizza for lunch and spent the afternoon wandering around the Kunsthaus. I still can't help but feel that the art world is an overpriced echochamber of the snottiest humans. Of course the combination of the art deco building with Deutsch everywhere makes one feel like they're in a movie set in the first half of the 20th century. After all that art I needed a nap!

The evening was spent picnicing on the edge of the Zürichsee and watching the sun go down. Sunsets are ever beautiful, but the number of mosquitos that showed up afterward was quite annoying. I took one last dip in the water and kissed Schweiz goodbye - actually saying see you later because I know I will be back.
