It was 18 km and a great way to experience Ticino. Or at least a small part of it. Along the way we saw a number of hillside vineyards, the incredible canyon of the Fiume Maggia, stone houses grouped into villages on the mountainsides, and marroni (chestnuts) everywhere. Sadly we reached the town of Maggia after all the restaurants stopped serving lunch, but I was still able to try the local Ciao beer and grab a sandwich at the Migros. Then we climbed up to the chapelle above the Cascata del Salto. An old, small, stone bridge spaced the deep canyon and then we came down the other side. Along the way we saw more than a few fire salamanders - black with random yellow spots. ![]() ![]() |
