The Great Train Robbery

Today was a lazy Saturday when we had nothing planned, so Iwona did some reading and some working in the garden replacing dead bushes in our hedge. I finished a book, Michael Crichton's The Great Train Robbery and then took the dogs for a run in the forest in the rain. Somehow Michael Crichton has managed to string a series of encyclopedia articles into a heist novel, which I would think only someone like me could enjoy but apparently it was a bestseller in 1975. Like all of Crichton's novels I enjoyed it, and there is a movie version I can watch if I want to some time with Sean Connery. The book is a novelized version of actual events in Victorian England in the 1850's and, for the most part, Crichton writes like a historian, citing testimony from the trial almost at the get go. A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
