5 August 2023 I live In a Town of Five Thousand People, which is why when I saw Frank McGuiness' peotry book of that title in Books Upstairs in Dublin I immediately decided to buy it. I also wanted to read more poetry. That McGuinness is a dour fellow should have been obvious from the photo of him on the back cover. His poetry is dark, and not in a gallows humor kind of way like Shel Silverstein. Much of it reminds of the darkness I feel at times put to page with utterly no hope. Fortunately my town of 5000 people is not as dark as his. |
