Wistful on the Arga

4 September 2023 - Pamplona

Walking along the Arga this morning I got a little misty eyed thinking back to that first day thirteen months ago when I started my Camino journey. I've walked across Spain from the French border in the Pyrenées to Santiago de Compostela over the course of three trips. By the end of the week I should have finished the journey to the Atlantic from Santiago. Iwona is meeting me there tonight. I have a nine hour train ride, but she's got a direct flight. Completing the Camino also bookends my time at Ailly; I started there after the three weeks last Summer and at the end of September I'll be on to new adventures. Ailly failed to make that zero to one transition of getting the first customer, which often happens with start-ups. It was still a great experience managing a team of eight people for a time. Life is full of transitions, but sometimes it seems like mine has a lot more than most. Paulo, who I most days that first week out of Moissac, asked me "how are you only 44?" Squeezing the most out of life I suppose. The Arga was a raging torrent when Inga and I made our way into town two days ago, and now she's two days further down the road and the Arga is calmly wending its way through town. It's a bit strange to end where others are just beginning, but everyone has to walk their own Camino. You never step into the same river twice.
