Milan Kundera's paean to the tragedy of central Europe centers on the idea the Czechoslovakia, Poland, Hungary, etc. are actually part of western Europe, just under Soviet occupation of the east. Originally presented as speeches during the mid-20th century and recently packaged into a book entitled A Kidnapped West.
