30 November 2024 - La Neuveville

I feel like I am back in nana & pop's house here at this BnB. The ticking grandfather clock plays the same tune as theirs did. There is a rotary phone on the wall. Old wooden freestanding cupboards for the dishes. Doors between all the rooms. The lady who owns the place speaks with an English accent, but I believe she may be Dutch based on the books lying around. She's selling the place to spend more time at her place in Spain. If only it weren't on the western side of Bern. I spent last night enjoying her grand piano. Tonight I will probably do the same, although I am tired from running the Course des Pavés and will probably collapse into bed fairly early.

Nana died nearly two decades ago and pop a decade before that, but visits to their house were such a formative part of my childhood. Pop served in the army in Europe after WWII and didn't teach his children to speak German. I wish I had been able to know him as an adult. I got that with Nana at least.
