An Exercise in Patience

Traveling to this big island across the water from Bergen is an exercise in patience. I flew from Zürich to Oslo to Bergen because that's just what one must do to get to Bergen. Two flights. Most of day. But getting into Flesland airport at 6:30 yestereve wasn't the end of my journey. I still had hours to go. First the Bybane into Bergen city center and then a but here to the island. I stopped in Kleppestø for firewood, water, food and beer. I did not get beer. I forgot they stopped selling it here at 8PM and it was already 8:20. Then I had the option to catch a bus at 8:30 and walk a couple kilometers with the firewood or wait an hour. So I walked. Arriving at the hytta finally, I turned the power on and went to put the food in the fridge. That's when I discovered that mice had gotten into the tea, spread it all over the kitchen, and shit in it. So there was that to clean up and work to finish that required the internet I didn't have on the plane. But by midnight I was sitting on the couch by firelight sipping Finnish whiskey and letting the memories this place holds flow back through me. I only have it until next summer, so I have to take them in now. Sipping my coffee after sleeping until the sun started to come up at 9AM, I think patience is not so bad.
