2 February 2025 - Adetswil

I can't believe we're already in the second month of 2025. I feel like the year's barely started, but maybe that's because I was sick for most of last month. I'm already behind on the year's goals. Ugh. I started the day off watching the first episode of a new Lars Monsen series NRK is producing where he visits Norway's national parks. Monsen is an outdoorsman and basically takes a camera camping with him. Slow TV at its finest. Then I got up and took the dogs for a walk in the forest above Bäretswil, all the while speaking Norwegian to them inspired by the show. Well, I still used German commands because that's what they understand. In the forest we discovered that one of our favorite trails was closed to protect a rare orchid. I emailed the local nature conservancy to learn what species it is and am excited to hear back as I'm still trying to learn the plants in the forest here. Back at home I did some reading, some writing, and had a lunch of leftover chicken soup, the universal feel good food when you've been feeling sick. This afternoon is a group run from the Mikkeller bar in Zürich. I thought the Mikkeller Running Club was just a Scandinavian thing, but running with my old group in Bergen last December I learned that it's global. Until then I'm watching the livestream from Punxatawny.
