2 August 2025 - Puszcz Gdański The past two nights we camped at Stegna right next to the beach, which was just beautiful. Today Iwona joined the walk in a new manner, leapfrogging with the car as I walked the course from Ostaszewo to Świbno. She skipped the parts of the day with rain. Eddie also hid in the car from the thunder. Paula was a steady companion though as we walked through towns and fields and then many miles next to the Vistula river. The whole delta region was marshland until Dutch Mennonites came and drained the land with levees and dikes and canals and windmills. They were expelled by the Russian army after WWII but their imprint is still very strongly on the land. At Mikoszewo we finally crossed the river on a ferryboat to Świbno. Iwona's uncle lives there and we saw him walking his dog down the road. Now we're staying at her cousin Mariola's apartment for a few nights and met another uncle (Mariola's father) here tonight. Only 20 kilometers left to walk into Gdańsk. And 4084 to Santiago according the sign by the ferry. ![]() |
