15 November 2025 - Erlenbach Today I took the A2 DELF exam, that is, a French language exam. I guess I'd built it up in my head as something more than it was. I've been to France. I have no trouble communicating there. I've even called up places on the phone to ask for things and make reservations. This lingering doubt from childhood still exists though. I spent many, many hours over the past few months studying, even though the feedback I got was mostly that what I was doing was 100% correct. Nevertheless, searching for jobs in Ostschweiz französisch is a nice-to-have, never necessary. So maybe not the best use of my time?
I have read many books in French during my adult life, but I got a couple books from The French Collective to have some exercises to prepare for this exam. Their A2 Essential French Grammar Explained in English had some typos, but was mostly useful, especially the exercises. Their set of short stories for vocabulary, A2 Retour à Jamais, however, was very poorly edited. Sections are missing and duplicated. The answer keys are mixed up. As a learner it's just frustrating. This book is just too messed up to recommend. Thumbs down. |
