Today, after spending the morning visiting the old walled city of Budva, we visited the more famous creation of the Venetian Republic during its heyday, Kotor. It is also a walled city build on the bay of the same name, but much larger. In those days it was called Cattero. And, in addition to city walls, they built fortifications more than 1000 feet up the steep mountainside behind the city. Today I climbed this wall, the Ladder of Kotor, and it is definitely one of the coolest castles I've seen in Europe.
