4 December 2025 - Erlenbach

We all learn about Mesopotamia - the land between the rivers in Greek. But civilization was recorded here for thousands of years before the "ancient" Greeks named it thus. Moudy Al-Rashid's Between Two Rivers takes us back to the days of cuniform through the artifacts that left: clay tablets written in Sumerian and Akkadian. She shares Captain Picard's love of archeaology and speaks to me in this familiar understanding of Ennigaldi-Nanna, perhaps the first museum curator. Holding a piece of worked flint on a hill above the Boyne river two years ago from the same period as cuniform tablets she held in London from what is now Iraq, I think I get Al-Rashid's emotive connection to history. This book shares that feeling and hearing her talk about it was a joy.
