5 July 2026 - Erlenbach

This morning I am enjoying a lazy Sunday reading in bed. I'll set the scene. The window is open with morning light and a light breeze. There is a pile of books next to me. I also fried some bacon and tomatoes and buttered a couple slices of nut bread. From the French press on my nightstand I am enjoying the first of three or four cups of coffee. The back of my bed is tipped into an upright(ish) position more conducize to reading. And my favorite French jazz playlist on Spotify is playing on my phone.

I used to have a lot of these lazy Sundays, but somehow I let my life get too busy and so I would just go until I collapsed for a day. Preëmptive relaxtion is definitely better, but harder to implement with my personality. Life is short, right? You have to pack in as much as possible. Wasting time is close to criminal and relaxing is quite close to wasting time, no?

No.

Yesterday was Independence Day back in my home country. I'm sure my family shot off fireworks or went to see them. Probably there was a good amount of barbecuing. Family and friends getting together to celebrate eachother and their country. I don't give much creedence to the gloomy stories online that no is celebrating. For my 4th of July I went for a long run with my CityRunning group followed by an apéro. Besides the lack of fireworks it was a pretty awesome 4th.
