This morning was Cara's first 5K. I signed her up for it and she whined and complained beforehand, but afterward she thanked me. We ran through the streets of Chinatown while my parents stayed home with the kids. The race was in honor of the new year (4705) and started off with firecrackers rather than a gunshot. Cara finished in 37:57 - faster than my first 5K she happily pointed out after crossing the finishline. I ran it in about 35 minutes. I am mostly recovered from my knee troubles, but the Christmas pounds are still slowing me down. I shall have to get a bit more serious about shedding them if I want to avoid the ignomy of defeat in the next race we run together. |

Yesterday we spent the afternoon walking the streets of San Francisco . . .
Well, my parents are visiting from Alpharetta this week, and we've already been through a whirlwind of activities: Point Reyes, Monterey, Napa & Sonoma. Now I'm busy catching up at work, so I'll let the pictures tell the story.
Maxwell climbs a tree while we picnic at Stinson Beach.
The Point Reyes Lighthouse was enshrouded in fog.
Poppy & Nanny looking out from the lighthouse.
Zara pretends to be handicapped at the Monterey Aquarium.
Brittan marches across the lawn at Robert Mondavi.
Climbing the art at Clos Pegase.
Ever silly is Dell at California's "Old Faithful" geyser.
Cara peers into the caves at Gundlach Bundschu.
Among hotels, the Embassy Suites isn't a really great place to stay. Sure, they have a nice breakfast included in the room rate, but the pool always seems to under construction. I've only stayed at an Embassy Suites three times in the past 7 years, but the pool was "under construction" at all three. Then there's the internet access: $10 a day charge for wireless-b access. Who the heck even uses b anymore? It's hard to check email at that snails pace! I set my alarm for 8, but we were awakened by the alarm set for 6:30 in the empty room next door. It was loud enough that we tried to turn off the alarm in our room before realizing what it was.
So I finally finished cutting together a video from Tahoe. Only took me a month and a half!
Maxwell still loves Boodle though, and wrote this song about her . . .
This weekend started with yet another trip to the hospital, this time because our evil sadistic baby stabbed her brother with the epipen. Yes, Zara who can do zippers got a hold of the epipen and decided to re-enact the demonstration video on him. Luckily Maxwell spent the evening only in a hyperactive, very talkative state. Perhaps I shouldn't call her evil, but the stealth pooper frequently brings Cara handfulls of her fecal creations. We are often ill-equiped to deal with the destructive nature her urges of curiosity take. Nevertheless, we did have some fun this weekend: |
Here's a nice description of the physics I'm working on using BaBar's massive dataset. It's become something of an all-consuming endeavour lately, and I seem to have shifted most of my blogging energy to YouTube.
Here's something to irritate the mothers out there: playing video games improves visual acuity!
Some years are just better than others, and 1995 was a banner year for my video-making. Now I'm bringing this collection to YouTube where I can finally share it with the world . . .
