30 August 2007 - New Laundry Room
So after many years of work our laundry room is finally finished!!!!!!! Of course there are still some nicities we'd like too add, but everything is fully functional and there are no more holes in the wall. Cara and I did the whole thing ourselves except for the plumbing; very satisfying.
My sweebus had the folks over at YouTube make me a birthday video.

Maxwell and I have settled into a nice morning routine - get up, he gets dressed while I shower, have breakfast, and then hop into the car. He's a funny guy though. I'll try to engage him about his plans for school that day and he's purposefully deceptive; he just messes with me. Like today he was taking in a picture of a dragon and I asked him how many wings it had (clearly two from the seeing the illustration) and he told me five. So I held up my hand while driving to show my five fingers and asked again if the dragon had five wings. Maxwell, knowing I couldn't see the picture, proceeded to tell me there were two in front, two in back and one coming out of its bottom.

Grandma, Alora & Nancy
This weekend we are down in Alpharetta visiting all of our people here. Most people we haven't seen since Christmas! Originally it was for the CHS 10 year reunion, but that looks to be an overpriced nothing, so I think we'll probably skip it.

We dropped off Maxwell for his first day of school today. He didn't eat breakfast or pee before he left the house because he was way too excited. He started playing as soon as we got there and will no doubt have much to report this afternoon. Zara was rather put off about not be allowed to go to school as well. We tried to frame it as "now you'll have mom to yourself all day", but she was frowning and looked confused as we walked back to the cars with her.
Right now though, I would gladly exchange positions with my littlest sweebus. Next Monday is my comprehensive exam, where I present my propsal for a thesis. Check out the written version. Once this proposal is accepted then I just have to write my thesis and finish the classes I'm taking this fall. My advisor Stefan, however, has taken to treating me with only a thinly veiled contempt. He has consistantly tried to lower my funding to afford taking on more graduate students to work for him over the past couple years (paycuts are fun). When he told me this past spring that I was going to have to take on a full teaching load this fall (which physics grad students at UT don't do once they're writing their thesis) I went over his head. Our relations have deteriorated since then, but my paycheck hasn't anymore. Such is the irony of bureaucracy that he cannot get rid of me . . . but it really doesn't make for a stimulating work environment.

So the girls headed off to school bright and early this morning - perhaps a little too early for the younger set. Maxwell doesn't start his preschool until Monday. He's going to just do half days until October so he can get used to it, but he's very excited all the same. On a completely unrelated note, the pictures I'm putting on the website now are photoquality for those of ya'll that like tangable versions. So put 'em on a CD, USB drive or whatever and go get 'em printed out.
