26 August 2010 - Adventures in Emailing

This week Maxwell discovered the joys of email - well, reading them that is. He was too excited about reading all the emails he got yesterday to spend any time replying to them. I think we may have to introduce the concept of multiple recipients first...

23 August 2010

Alora & Brittan decided they wanted to make a "Monty-Python-like" sketch:

18 August 2010 - First day of school

Today was the first day for all 4 kids: 7th grade, 2nd grade & kindergarten. For an extra-special treat Zara gave us our first first-day-of-school meltdown. She had a complete crying fit and it took a lot of coaxing from me to convince her it was okay to go. She was still bawling as she walked down the hall after sitting on my lap for the morning assembly, but she walked down the hall. After school she was beaming though, and full of stories about what she did today. It was fun after all!

For Alora, Brittan & Maxwell school was fairly old hat, but they where glad to get back into the routine. Brittan complained yesterday on our drive home about how boring her summer had been. We stopped for a visit to Virginia to see their great-grandfather after Cara and I picked them up on their way back from the beach. While there we took some pictures.

14 August 2010

Cara's done with her semester and my parents are attending a wedding in Evansville, IN - conveniently the home our friends the Shepherds. Ergo we're spending the weekend visiting them before we head further east to Virginia for a short visit with Papa, Cara's grandfather, who is undergoing chemotherapy for esophagal cancer.

7 August 2010 - Thunder Run

The National Guard Thunder Run was the first race I did after we got to Lincoln 2 years ago, and since the kids were out of town, I actually convinced Cara to run with me this year! I am still putting off training until I get under 200 lbs, but I'm getting close - 201.0 this morning! Hopefully this will keep me from injuring myself again. Unfortunately Cara's knee trouble flared back up during the race so she was limping pretty hard afterward. Our final times were 29:34 and 44:31. Not bad for a hot August morning!

Cara has been busy with school, but I must admit to missing my kiddoes. There is a dearth of activity in the house without them! I know they're having fun at the beach though and no doubt learning a ton of marine biology from their Nanny. Following Zara's lead Maxwell has apparently even ventured out into the waves to boogie board. I'm not sure he would have done that if I was there, so I'm glad he's getting the chance to. The girls generally respond well to my pushing, but Maxwell often just pushes back. Stubborn little guy - it's probably one of his best traits.

4 August 2010 - St. Louis Zoo

Lions - but no tigers or bears... Today we went to the St. Louis Zoo with Nanny & Poppy and it was a hundred degrees. Literally! The kids all still had fun though, and then headed for the beach while I headed home. (Zoo Pictures)

This past weekend Maxwell had a birthday party sleepover extravaganza! Check out the pictures!
