Congressman Ted Poe has written a bill to (sort of) put us back on the gold standard. Naturally I wrote my Congressman to support it: I would like you to support HR 6690, the "Sound Dollar and Economic Stimulus Act of 2008". I think a sound currency is vital to our economic future and fixing it to an amount of gold is the time-tested way to do it. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution reads "The Congress shall have Power…To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures…" Since 2001, Congress has stood idly by while the dollar has lost almost 70% of its value, whether measured against gold or retail gasoline. Inflation is no way to fund a government. Please vote for HR 6690!
