Today I learned that the battle between consumers and alcohol distributors has been moved to the Federal arena. Naturally, I wrote
my congressman to let him know what I thought about buying wine directly from wineries:
Dear Congressman Fortenberry,
Recently introduced legislation, HR 5034 or the "CARE Act" seeks to limit the freedom of individuals to purchase wine outside of the 3 tier system, which is itself a relic of prohibition. Distributors are seeking to use the force of government to block wine sales direct from the winery to the consumer because it cuts them out of the equation. I encourage you to vote against this legislation if you have the opportunity. Let's let the free market, not government enforced distributor monopolies, decide what wines we can purchase.

I encourage fellow winelovers to do likewise. We beat the distributors in Tennessee and we can beat them in Washington too!
