Salmon Lice

Lepeophtheirus salmonis

The salmon louse is a parasite, naturally, and is particularly successful in crowded seawater conditions. Interestingly, the lice cannot survive in freshwater so when salmon are in close quarters for long periods as they are in rivers at the beginning and ending of their lives the louse is not a problem. Where it does become a real problem is in aquaculture.
