The Lessona DOC was declared in the province of Vercelli on 3 December 1976. In 1992 the new Biella province was created and included part of this DOC. Made from mostly Nebbiolo (Spanna) as well as some Vespolina and Bonarda. One year of aging and at least 12% alcohol are a requirement for this wine.
