Carmignano
Toscana
Carmignano is a wine grown in the Firenze and Prato provinces of the Toscana region. This DOC was created on 28 April 1975 and the Rosso (although no longer designated with that name) was elevated to a DOCG 20 October 1990. The other varieties of this wine remained at the DOC level, however. The Carmignano is made with Sangiovese (minimum 50%), Canaiolo Nero (maximum 20%), Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (10-20%), Trebbiano Toscano, Canaiolo Bianco and Malvasia del Chianti (maximum 10%) as well as other reds grown in the zone (maximum 10%). In addition, this wine must have an alcohol content not lower than 12.5%. The regular version needs to spend 8 months in the barrel and can't be released before 1 July of the year following the harvest and the Riserva requires 12 months in the barrel and can't be released until 29 September in the 3rd year after harvest.
