Brunello di Montalcino, declared a DOC on 28 March 1966 and raised to a DOCG on 1 July 1980, is a wine grown in the Montalcino area of Italia's Siena province. It is made from 100% Sangiovese, which is locally called Brunello. The wine requires 12.5% alcohol and with 2 years in the barrel and 6 months in the bottle may be labeled Riserva.
