Tweet Svínafellsjökull is a glacier one can hike up to from the southern coastal road. Signage warns of deadly hazards and lists hikers' names who died. Naturally this only spurred my curiousity and determination to touch the glacier on the other side of the lagoon filled with icebergs. Crossing the cliffside skreefield to get there and back was not something the kids wanted to risk and it was scary and unstable enough that I'm glad they didn't join me.
