Last night in the bath I finished reading Amy Stewart's
fabulously entertaining Drunken Botanist. It is not, in
fact, a guide to gardening while intoxicated. It is instead a
guide to the plants that get humans intoxicated and flavor the
drinks humans use to get themselves intoxicated. The book is a
fascinating jaunt through the botanical world along with recipes
and a bit of history mixed in. Having gardened for brewing and
brewed with things I've found in the woods (wild grapes were the
most successful), I can definitely relate to cognitive pleasure
in understanding and growing plants for that purpose.

And now I have some new ideas to try out...
