So it's probably a thing in other places, but here in Nashville
we have beer and yoga. That is, the local breweries give up
their space for yoga and sometimes their beer as well. On
Saturday mornings at 10:30
Mantra
has a free class with a free
beer, where the take donations for a local charity that
changes quarterly. Tuesday evenings at 6:30
Fat Bottom
has a $5 donation class run by
Small World Yoga.
I generally grab a beer beforehand to drink during the class.
Likewise the same organization has a monthly free class at
Tailgate,
usually the first Wednesday of the month.
Cara's friend Bethany clued us in to the fun and now I go
almost every week. Cara doesn't often get up for the Saturday
morning ones, and sometimes they declare a girls only night,
but generally we go together. Bethany is a little obsessed
with one of the Small World instructors, and she's always out
for yoga if he's there. Me, I kind of enjoy doing it with other
people. I can feel a little out of place if it's 90% female
as yoga often is though. It's hard not to feel like that one
creepy guy when you're in a room full of women with their butts
in the air. Fortunately Mantra usually has a much more
balanced group - sometimes there are even more guys there than
girls!
So tonight we'll be out at Fat Bottom. And tomorrow we'll be
out at Tailgate. Last weekend was the marathon and next
weekend we're visiting the girls in Atlanta, so it'll be some
time before I'm back at Mantra. I told my co-workers in Ohio about
the Beer & Yoga phenomenon and one of them joked "So that's where freemium
came from - blame Nashville!"
