An Average Winter Morning...

Training

7 January 2021

Today is a day like any other. I went to bed last night later than I'd intended, but still woke up before my alarm. I only set it because I have an appointment today that I don't want to miss. It's been quite cold here in Bergen the past week or so, but I stay warm in my bed. First thing I take a sip of water to slake the night's thirst. Running a heater in my bedroom tends to dry one out. Then it's up to start water for coffee and take a bio break. Living in a hytta makes this part of the routine somewhat different, but I've adjusted to the Spartan lifestyle. Grind the beans and then let them steep with the water in the French press as I start my yoga playlist on Spotify and get out my mat. The room is cool, but I am warm in my wool and the stretching feels good although the ankle I injured last month still hurts with any weight or pressure put on it. As I go through my asanas I try to stay focused on my body rather than letting my thoughts wander to the day ahead. This is the time I check in with my aging body and see how the various parts and pieces are functioning. Other than the ankle things are feeling pretty good although I know I've put on 5 kilograms since the injury. This will need to come off for the summer in Grindelwald, but for now I just need to be comfortable in my skin. Stretching completed I have laundry to do before my trip this weekend, and so I fill up the sink with clothes and water and detergent. Then a bit of stirring and let it soak while I take a shower. I turned the heater on in the bathroom earlier so it wouldn't be freezing. A hot shower, I've discovered, is one luxury I'd rather not go without. After that it's back into my wool and into the kitchen to wash the clothes in the sink. Washing and rinsing takes a good hour and finishes off the coffee. I start a new pot and have a banana before opening up the laptop. Clothes drying by the heater next to me I sit on my bed with my computer, working. Buses only come every hour this time of day so I've time to kill before I can catch one to make my appointment. The time goes fast, and soon I am headed out the house with a couple trashbags to drop in the dumpster on the way to the bus.
