It was a loosely planned affair, because we all thought we'd be having a funeral instead. Dad wasn't able to get in the wheelchair and come out to the table, but he still enjoyed the meal. Everyone including the medical staff from hospice thought he was going to go last week. Then they changed his pain meds and he went from not eating, tiring after 10 minutes of interaction, and sleeping 90% of the time last week to being alert for hours and eating full meals this week. At first we thought that it was the bright patch of a day or two before a person dies, but dad has been like this all week. I wish I could look back on my journal when Bev died and see how quickly it was. She was at our house in Tennessee regularly getting treatments at Vanderbilt in the spring of 2012 she went into hospice in Georgia in June and she was gone. With Nana there were also months, but I saw her at the end of 2004 for Kate's wedding and then she was gone a month later at the start of February. |
